Our Amsterdam apartment

As we planned our trip to Amsterdam, one of the things I was looking forward to the most was all the amazing apartments and houses that were available to rent in that city. As I said in my last post, I love the architecture in Amsterdam, and judging from the roundup on Airbnb, a lot of these homes are just as adorable on the inside as they are on the outside.

After all, the Jordaan neighborhood is considered rather hip, with lots of great design shops and cute cafes in walking distance, so the people who choose to live there certainly seem to know a thing or two about how to decorate a house.

When we pulled up to the apartment I knew we’d made a good choice. The narrow, one-lane street was quiet and lined with HUNDREDS of bicycles. There were cheery plants along the sidewalk and flowers in vases in the windows. Such a lovely neighborhood.

Inside we were greeted by pink tulips and a complimentary bottle of wine — major kudos to this Airbnb host! Fresh flowers and a little libation is definitely the quickest way to a positive review from yours truly.

We walked out to the backyard and practically gasped at how gorgeous the view was. Throughout the trip this area would prove to be quite entertaining, with all the neighborhood cats padding past the french door windows.

But the room I stayed in was hands down my favorite spot in the whole place. When it’s not being rented out, the room is clearly a little kid’s room. How adorable are those posters and that banana-print pillow?

But that balcony! So dreamy. And, speaking of dreams, I was beyond relieved to find that the temporary beds were surprisingly comfortable (read: I slept like a rock that night).

We had so many great times in this apartment! Stay tuned for more of our experiences out and about in Amsterdam next week.
