My dudes, as usual, Free Press Summerfest is right around the corner and I have no idea what I’ll be wearing!

A few weeks ahead of FPSF I like to look at festival style shots from around the world to get inspired. I love Spell the Gypsy’s festival page, they seem to go to the most amazing festivals over in Australia. So jealous! And Elle and Cosmopolitan both had a good Coachella roundup for some truly hot-weather-friendly looks. Read on to see my favorites!

Houston rarely experiences much of a spring season. Generally you might get a few perfect days of high temperatures in the 80s, but they’re few and far between, interspersed between chilly winter holdovers and angry, dark, thunderstorm-filled days (like today, yikes).

Not this spring! I’ve been amazed by all the multiple breezy, warm, PERFECT days we’ve had so far this season. And after a few weekends of being a homebody and getting a bunch of work done around the house, I have officially reemerged into an actual life, back to my social butterfly ways.

Read on for what I’ve been up to!

The folks at Free Press Summer Fest released the 2017 lineup yesterday and I’m…looking forward to a fun time but not quite as pumped as I’d hoped.

I always get excited about live music around this time of year. The holidays are over, spring weather is around the corner and tons of bands start to announce their tours. And then my calendar starts filling up quick!

As a result, I went to three shows just over the past week with my friend Melissa, who has scarily similar taste in music as me. Read on for more on those as well as my Spring live music calendar!

Since the past two weeks have been so…interesting, it was nothing short of fascinating going through photos of my life from the past two months in order to prepare for this “currentlies” post. Like, oh yeah, I did have a life pre-Trump presidency, one that was relatively idyllic and easy-going.

It’s not like the worry about his presidency wasn’t looming at the time, but I certainly didn’t realize how insane things would get straight out the gate. Post-election we were all hearing conservatives say that should take Trump seriously but not literally. Welp. As it turns out we should have taken him both seriously AND literally.

No wonder I’m feeling a bit nostalgic about my recent past. Here’s what I was up to while I took a monthlong break from blogging…

Over the past few months something kind of miraculous happened: Fred ended up working a fairly similar schedule to my own for weeks and weeks on end. We generally don’t know what his schedule will be ahead of time, so it just ended up being a pleasant surprise, week after week.

So going through photos to do a “currently” post today I was surprised to see that most of them were of this guy, sitting across the table from me. Lots of date nights. I’m going to miss it! A couple weeks ago he went back to his normal schedule of working nights and weekends, so I’m currently enjoying the alone time but I know that feeling will be short lived.

Making mixed CDs has become kind of a lost art now, what with our use of MP3s and Spotify playlists to get our music fix. When my art and DIY exchange pals decided to host a mix CD swap for this round I almost wasn’t sure I’d be able to meet the challenge — my home computer doesn’t even have a CD drive in it! But I was so excited about the idea, making mix tapes and mix CDs brings back so much nostalgia for me.

In the end I was able to complete the assignment (and even get extra credit). Keep reading for what went on my mixes and get a link to a spotify playlist for the same songs!

Since getting back from Mexico life’s been less exciting and a little more simple, but it’s been nice to have a break. I’ve been doing a lot of cooking, exercising and still seeing plenty of live music and fine arts as usual.

Read on for what’s been going on lately!

This stormy week notwithstanding, the weather in Houston has been gorgeous lately. Is winter over already? We’ve seen so many days of bright blue skies and glowing sunlight that it feels like summer is just around the corner.

Here’s how I’ve been taking advantage of it…

While Houston’s fantastic local music scene carries on apace year-round, there’s certainly a season for the touring bands that come through our city, and that season is beginning now.

It will amp up in mid-March as bands swing by on their way to or from South by Southwest, and it will peak in the summertime with Free Press Summer Fest and other big-name tours.

I’m happy the season is starting up again because until this past weekend, I hadn’t been to a show since…Peaches…in November. Yikes. Read on for the shows I’m the most excited about!
