On New Year’s Eve, Sally and I went to the Troika, where we met Fritz. The couples were dancing with hands on each other’s hips, yelling in each other’s faces, streaming with sweat. An orchestra in Bavarian costume whooped and drank and perspired beer. The place stank like a zoo.

After this, I think I strayed off alone and wandered for hours and hours through a jungle of paper streamers. Next morning, when I woke, the bed was full of them.

When the Mexico trip to celebrate Oscar and Andrew’s wedding was still a few weeks away, we got an email from them with plans for the week. On one day it said “Fiesta at the Hacienda! Mariachis, tequila burro, etc.”

Tequila burro?

Decembers are always hectic for me but I have to admit it that part of me loves it. There are so many parties to go to, so many fun errands to do and so many lovely things to make. I’m honestly a bit sad that it’s almost Christmas, but there’s always New Year’s Eve to look forward to.
