I’ve found myself grilling out increasingly often lately, mosquitoes be damned. I think it’s because this spring has been so wet and rainy (thus the mosquitoes) that any night that we actually get clear weather I just want to be outside, basking in it.

There’s something so soothing about holding a glass of wine in one hand and tending to a steak on the grill with the other while the sun sets and the leaves rustle in the breeze. Classic Americana.

Mmmm, caprese. I’m so in love with the stuff. There’s something downright addictive about that combination of gooey cheese, acidic tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, and rich olive oil. Add a sprinkle of balsamic and fresh ground salt and pepper and POW. Down for the count.

I’m just gonna say it: I’m over brunch. Alright, so the concept of brunch is lovely. Who can hate on tasty breakfast foods, probably smothered in some kind of fresh fruit compote, and served with tangy mimosas? Mmm.

But the reality of brunch is…not so great. Waking up with a slight hangover on Sunday morning only to realize that damn, you made some ill-advised brunch plans at the bar/show/derby bout last night at that place that doesn’t take reservations and has a line stretching out to the parking lot, manned by surly waiters who are also hungover. And you’re supposed to meet up there in…twenty minutes.
